
The School of Business and Administration of ZNUEL traces its roots to 1949 when the Department of Factory Management and the Department of Trade were founded, and at that time the University was named Zhongyuan University. In the year 2000, the School of Business and Administration was established to bring together the former Department of Industrial Economics, Department of Trade Economics and Department of Agricultural Economics in the University.
Reflecting the main disciplines studied, the School is organized into four departments – Business Administration, Trade and Marketing Management, Agriculture and Forestry Management / Management Science, and Tourism Management – and 8 research institutes / centers covering the areas of Business Management, Industrial Economic, International Business, Rural Development, Technological Economy Management, Tourism Economics, Rural Poverty, and Land Economics. Moreover, the School owns a national demonstrating center of Experimental Teaching of Economics and Management and a provincial key Research Base of Arts and Social Science – Research Center of WTO and the Development of Hubei Province. Six disciplines (Business Management, Industrial Economics, International Economics and Trade, Tourism Management, Technological Economy Management, and Agricultural Economy Management) in the School are honored as the provincial key disciplines, and Marketing,Business & Administration ,International Economics and Trade are honored as the provincial brand-programmes. As to the courses offered by the School, Marketing is awarded National Best Course, and International Trade and Agricultural Economics are awarded Provincial Best Courses.
In its teaching, researching and learning, the school bridges economics and management. The School is now authorized to award doctoral degree to Level-One discipline – Business & Administration, and owns 2 postdoctoral research stations of Business Management and Applied Economics. The School now offers 7 doctoral programmes (Business Management, Industrial Economics, International Economics and Trade, Agricultural Economy Management, Tourism Management, Technological Economy and Management, and Marketing), 11post-graduate programmes (Business Administration, Industrial Economics, International Economics and Trade, Agriculture and Forestry Economy and Management, Tourism Management, Technological Economy and Management, Land Resource Management, Marketing, Human Resource Management, E-Commerce,Forestry Economy and Management), and 10under-graduate programmes (Business Administration, Marketing, Human Resource Management, International Economics and Trade, Trade Economics, Logistic Management, E-Commerce, Tourism Management, Management Science, Agriculture and Forestry Economy and Management). The current recruitment of the School includes about 120 doctoral students, more than 600 post-graduate students and more than 3100 under-graduate students.
The teaching and research team in the School enjoy quite a reputation in China and is well structured. Among the 146 members of staff, 113 are in different academic teams including 29 professors among which 22 are doctoral supervisors, 52 associate professors and 32 lecturers. The significance of the School’s teaching and research efforts could be shown by the honors its academic staff are granted. There are 6 experts in the School are entitled to the Government Allowance granted by the State Council and one expert is entitled to the Provincial Government Allowance. One professor has been awarded the National Best 100 Teachers, two have been awarded Yong-and-Mid-Aged Experts Who Has Made Outstanding Achievements, 5 in the academic staff have been awarded Cross-Century Discipline Leaders by the province or Ministry of Education, 2 have been awarded Hubei High Level Intelligence of the New Century, 1 has been selected to join the Support Project for the Distinguished in the New Centur” of the Ministry of Education.
The School enjoys a cutting edge in such disciplines as Business Management, Industrial Economics, International Economics and Trade, Agricultural Economics by properly allocating its resources and developing research areas. Just in the recent five years, the School has undertaken more than 20 projects supported by the National Social Science Fund and the National Natural Science Fund, more than 50 projects supported by the provincial government, Ministries or international institutions, and more than 100 projects supported by business and other institutions. More than 30 research awards at the provincial level are granted to the School.
All types of international exchanges are encouraged by the School. The School is now in a long-term and stable relationship of academic exchange with a lot of privilege universities and research institutes (such as IDS Institute of Development Studies, IRRI International Rice Research Institute) from the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, France, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Ukraine and so forth.
